Discrimination and racism, african americans and racism, racism and real estate
One of the most important forms of racial discrimination is �to ghettoize�
- putting together people of similar color or culture in a particular
area demarcated for them. Spatial discrimination based on race can be
one of the most derogatory forms. It is hence, the duty of real estate
agents/brokers to uphold the tenets of Fair Housing Act, (42 U.S.C. 3601
et seq.) which means that we are not allowed to steer people towards �appropriate
neighborhoods�. It is unfair and unjust on parts of real estate professionals
to indulge in racial discrimination.
It is equally important to denounce anybody who hints at racial discrimination
� whether your seniors or clients who enquire about the �mix� of the neighborhood.
Ethics are an integral part of any profession and it is important to uphold
them. Hence, it is important to protest - there�s the icy, �I beg your
pardon?� There's the, �That's offensive and I don't want to hear it or
anything like it again.� And there's even, �I'm sorry you feel that way.
It doesn't look like this business relationship is going to work out.

Online, one will come across many racists who say derogatory things about
people of different races. It is important to comment or report people
/profiles who indulge in racial abuse. People are technology savvy and
clients do their homework before they come to table. It would cost you
more than anyone else if you are seen either supporting racism or not
condemning it. Any sort of discrimination leads to a narrow mind which
leads to further discrimination against other groups of people. Hence,
it is important for us as real estate agents to guarantee every citizen
the right to house ownership and work doubly hard to put an end to prejudice
and condemn it when it rears its ugly head. Residence or space is a basic
right of every citizen; we as real estate agents must guarantee it.
